What are the emotions that we prevent ourselves from expressing?

Created during the first year of my apprenticeship, this photographic project consists of portraits of members of my family. I asked them to think about an emotion they couldn’t express. In order to make it perceptible, I placed a glass plate slightly splashed with water between the device and the model.

 

This visual barrier acts as a metaphor for emotional restraint: it disturbs the gaze, creates distance and prevents direct reading of the face.
